So fine, but so wrong. Them ladies got so far up in their feelings they couldn’t find a way back out. Rod & Karen went all Florida style and stood their ground on this and I loved it.
I think the problem with this whole controversy is that not only are a lot of people assuming that Pharrell’s idea of social responsibility is the same as theirs. They are also focusing most of their attention on Pharrell himself and not colorism. I agree, with Karen when she says that the problem is bigger than Pharrell because in a world where there is a variety of black women being represented then this cover would be fine. Also, I’m tired of asking or demanding others to represent me with their platform, more minorities need to get into making music, comic books, or other media because that guarantees more variety in representation. Alone we may not become as big as Pharrell or Stephen Colbert, but collectively people will notice.
Madonna is out here trying to be an impossible white woman. I have never liked her so anytime she gets scorched, I’m in.
There is an empathy gap between black men and dark skinned black women. This explains why so many black men are colorism apologists.
I think insecurity is a very loaded word, I also think Pharrell is clever enough to use the word purposely to express his frustrations with a small jab at people who are using his album to #springboardt their own agenda. I understand the conversation is one that needs to be had but like with Park/Colbert you shoot at the wrong target you only hinder your argument.
Suggested new title: Reading Madonna for Filth.
That was an EPIC written curse out. It was even more ether-laced than Karen’s Nintendo rant.
Whew; they don’t play in Malawi.
