Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I never really minded people remaking trap music into acoustic songs. Some of them were actually pretty good. What I did have a problem with was the reaction they received, as in “Wow” look at what so and so did with this song! It’s so much better!! To that I say get the entire fuck out of here.
That being said, these trap covers on Twitter were fiyah! I loved most of them, some were whack as with all things but for the most part I had a great time watching them. Yours was among one of the best, Rod. Damn I love my people.
I remember when the ratings dropped from the Dolezal thing, Rod mentioned even as disappointed as people were with that, if they replaced MHP it wouldn’t be with someone who was even more pro-Black than her, or any other PoC, that spot would just go to more white voices. A year later, and look where we are.
They’ve gotten rid of almost all their Black and Latino talent this week if they hadn’t driven them away already. Karen warned us it would happen once Obama was on his way out, but damn I didn’t think it would be this obvious. And Melissa’s show going away isn’t just about losing her tv spot, but all the other voices she put on. She had the only Sunday Morning talk show where the majority of the guests WEREN’T white men. She gave her platform to Black women, and people of color who don’t get that opportunity anywhere else in mainstream media. She brought on Joy Ann Reid, she brought on Elon, she had on Goldie Taylor, and Bomani, and Jemele. And that’s why I saw a lot of people even if they didn’t get to watch or even didn’t care for Melissa personally, were still feeling this loss.
