Hey Rod and Karen! I’m in the same boat about the critiques and think-pieces for Insecure. I’ve stopped reading those clickbait articles and try to weed out the ones with real insight. I also stopped talking about the show on social media. I talk to my sister, my cousin, and two friends exclusively about the show, that’s it! I appreciate you, Karen, and Bassey’s analysis and breakdown. I agree that it’s the hyper focus critiques are because the show is centered around black women and their experience. Thanks for reading!
R & K, please enlighten me, has society gotten soft or what? Let’s tie in insecure and common sense for a minute. Insecure is a show on HBO, which I would call a mature channel & show for the most part. What I mean by that is, the people viewing this program that comes on Sundays at 10:30 PM (give or take) are mature, reasonable adults. Why does a condom have to be shown, and Lawrence or Daniel have to then hold a condom rip it off and put it on on camera to please people? We all know the risks of unprotected sex. And just because it’s not shown doesn’t mean it’s not on. And if it’s not on that’s on lawrence or Daniel or 5head aka neighbor bae, or who ever is fucking! Me as the viewer, (and I can only speak for myself) I’m not even thinking about condoms at that point! I just wanna see where this is leading to. Case in point the shot seen around the world that Issa bae took to the face. When I watch other programs that might have violence or sex, I don’t go out and think criminal minded or I’m gonna fuck a woman unprotected, I know it’s just entertainment! Am I missing something That’s has folks in an uproar?

Twitter is not the masses. Four or five people on a timeline does not a think piece make. I like Insecure and will continue to watch until I don’t like it.
I wonder how old are these think piece authors? I am 44, the women on Insecure are 29 and 30. They are not my role models, I should be theirs.
People can critique the show, I welcome it, but it’s trivial nature of what people are critical about that makes my ass itch.
Editing to add, this week’s critique was like writing a think piece on The Golden Girls and why they live together.
They just live together and it works!
I do not know why the Issa character was trippin about oral sex….Remember when Lawrence had the interview with the tech company he works for…..Issa made sure Lawrence would have the best interview eva!
