I have complicated feelings regarding Felicity Huffman. As a mother, I would do what was in my power to make sure my children got the best education or medical care or the best whatever to make sure they have a great head start. On the other hand, Felicity’s children already have a leg up. There’s no equity in access to the best of things. (I’ve been doing research and I discovered there is a big difference between equitable and equal.) I also believe that jail/prison in most cases don’t teach anything except how to be a better criminal and they don’t rehabilitate. What lesson is Felicity learning? Are people going to see this case and think “oh, I’m not going to bribe people to doctor my children’s SAT test.” (On a side note, I don’t like academic aptitude tests. They don’t really prove a person’s level of intelligence or ability to pass a class. I did fucking horrible on the SATs (an 820) but I got a partial scholarship to go to PWI for both undergrad and graduate school. There were bumps along the way but I graduated on the honor’s lists. *Sigh* I could write a whole book on the in-equitability in the education system.
Man that SNL stuff felt like it went by so fast. Maybe its because I dont use Twitter as much these days but it felt like I turned my phone on and saw the new hires, immediately followed by my feed being retweets of the racist podcast clip, then the next time I opened Twitter he was already fired. Folks working quick man.
Hello rod and Karen! You can call me anonymous. Just wanted to chime in regarding the manufacturer of OxyContin filing for bankruptcy. I understand the commentary was meant to be facetious. However OxyContin has and has always been what known as a c-2. What that means is that all drugs are classified based on their addiction potential. Drugs like oxycodon, Percocet, morphine, and fentanyl are al very potent pain medicines. And this is probably a bit personal as a person of color who is also a pharmacist. But, the opioid crisis is not the fault of the manufacturer, but more so thr prescriber or doctors who wrote the prescriptions. Some of these prescribers were known as “pill mills†meaning they made tons of cash, similar to the doctor in the show claws. Medicines like OxyContin have a place, which is typically for terminally ill, chronic severe pain patients. Similar to pts with sickle cell typically will take morphine for their pain. Instead of addressing the problem which is medical bias among the community, the easy thing is to blame the drug manufacturer. This isn’t towards you but the “governmentâ€. The prescriber who easily orders Percocet for Becky broken leg will tell Keisha to take Tylenol or Motrin. The real issue was over prescribing and the pill mill doctors. I could go on and on, but won’t bore you. I just wanted to write in quickly regarding this. Love you all!!
