Great Recap as always and just wanted to add I remember after the beginning of the uprising in May of last year people in particular got behind the 8cantwait campaign as a great starting point, even got praised by Obama. But as soon as folks were like this is too weak and reduction isn’t enough all the favorite twitter activists quickly threw that shit away. I understand wanting shit done now, but we gotta be realistic with where the world/ white people/ everybody is at. and there has never been a time that i can think of that didnt have a major systemic change without a strong backlash.
Maybe im thinking of it the wrong way and im not getting paid the big socialist dollars to find out how to do this but I think with any new system unless we actively safeguard it against white supremacy they will find a way to make their home in it. As we are seeing in our activist spaces “wokeness” can be co-opted and used against marginalized folks.
Anyways while they still arguing about abolishing the police, I can’t wait to see the long term effects of whats going to happen with the Maryland policing bills and their longterm effects. This may be the first step into actually getting major change done because if we can limit the scope/power of police unions you will be surprised how much less powerful cops are.
