I was that person that felt guilty over not buying a home. I even had a friend ‘shame’ me about not purchasing a home as she was able to afford one and me, only able to afford to rent. I am now in the stage of researching the prospect of owning a condo/townhouse. Like Karen said, it’s debt and while on paper, owning a home looks great, but based on what I have seen with my friends, it’a headache with repairs, upkeep, going to Lowe’s or Home Depot on a consistent basis. Fun fact – my sister and I inherited our mother’s home and we are in the cleaning out stage of the house and that’s the easy part. We have to deal with mold clean up, remodeling, property taxes, home owner’s insurance, redoing the pipes, filters for the well water………
The list goes on and all of this money has to come from somewhere….smdh. We will not sell as land appreciates, but it is a whole headache for a house that no one can live in at the moment.
The reporter doing the story sounded so offended over some cereal he probably doesn’t eat.
