I live in NYC but I vote in every city, state and federal election. Upstate NY is far more red than the city and Lowkey, governors of NYS have to cater to the upstate crowd if they want to win. In my honest opinion, the governors don’t really care as much about NYC because they know we can be pretty self-sufficient just through our local taxes. It’s not fair, though, because our contribution to State revenue out paces the rest of the state. (Just like how California, NY, NJ, Connecticut and a thimbleful of other states contributes the most federal revenue.)

This is answering the poll. I’ve lived in NY & CA. While both are perennial ‘blue’ states at the national level. They both fuck around and elect GOP governors so I can’t go on autopilot and assume “y’all got it” cause you know how ‘real’ — (read: white) Americans are when they’re left to their own devices.

Covid is a kind of natural catastrophe I my opinion of course the stupidity of many people only helps it. But I remember in the beginning scientists didn’t expect it to mutate so much and not in the direction where it gets more dangerous. You can see evolution in real time. No government in the world did everything right, because how. The danger is changing and with enough people unvaccinated it has a great possibility to grow and change.
Btw. In Germany you pay a church taxes. Unless you go and do the exit thing as I did. Haha!
