I don’t I have much to add to the excellent point the two of you made on this. It’s iron clad, at this point. Honestly, I’ve stayed out of much of the Israel-Palestine social media discussions online because it’s online & I’m not going to get anywhere with people having a shouting match about whether people are gonna vote or not, because Joe Biden isn’t doing a ceasefire but he did a pause.
I’ve been on my block game for wild takes but I also just don’t talk about it. Not worth it. I’m sick of anger & performativeness beating the shit out of us; it’s exhausting. I’m exhausted. The people in both countries are most definitely exhausted by their long-time wars. It’s all sad but I don’t have to join in. This shit is maddddd complicated. Not as easy as just slapping some sloganeering to the proceedings. It’s a lot. As for Julianna Marguiles? Man, she sure own goaled herself, huh? I listened to that interview & while I have soften a bit on how I felt initially, using black people as your example? Yeah, I’m tired. Take it easy, y’all.
I will never give up on voting. I’ve had to unfollow so many people who have been dying they’re not going to vote over one issue reasons. One person talked about not voting because they had integrity. Fuck your integrity. That person will be the loudest person complaining if Donald Trump gets back into office and all our rights are stripped away. I hope that by the time the election rolls around next year people will have clearer heads because right now, a lot of people are in pain over loved ones being killed and like you said there’s no point in yelling at them. If anything that makes people want to dig their heels in. But I do think there are a segment of people who are taking advantage of what’s happening in the world to push their platforms on social media by saying they won’t vote. I see right through those opportunists.
Y’all make very salient observations about social media, voting and how folks act online
while remaining steadfast in y’all’s empathy and I think that came through in this episode. Granted, I think it comes through in y’all episodes, which is why I fuck with y’all the long way, but especially in this one.
I feel the same way about voting; finding a picture of my mom in college at Dr. King’s casket viewing put things in a different perspective for me. I haven’t really posted anything on social media about the Israel’s destruction of Gaza but have seen a whole lot that folks have been posting; I used to post *a whole fucking lot*, especially during the 2016 Democratic Primary and the Trump years but I stopped after realizing that my anger, pain over the 2016 election and overall fear for this country had me online doing the emotional equivalent of trying to fill a barrel with water that also has a hole at the bottom.
I agree with y’all in not engaging with folks saying online they’re not voting, especially in this context. Nobody is Black Canary, they ain’t screaming a brick wall down.
