Rod and Karen banter about watching over a drunken neighbor, vulnerability in Black American art and why Rod is going to wait to listen to Bey’s new album. Then they “Do It For The ‘Gram” real quick and finally sword ratchetness.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as invested in the fate of a random drunk person, I was sitting in my car listening intently and I started to worry I wouldn’t get to the conclusion and hear that she was gonna be all right before I got to my destination. She’s definitely lucky it was y’all there though, y’all are some real ones.
Whew, you said Native Son Rod, I had flashbacks on how tight my chest was when I first read this book in high school. Richard Wright wrote a real one.
Fast forward to you and Karen helping that white-girl wasted white girl. When I tell you that she had some real angels helping her that night. You and Karen are the realest MVP’s!
I think it was very kind of you two to look after your neighbor like that. Something bad could have happened to her had she been left on the curb. Maybe I’m naive but I still believe in the human spirit. Even though this country is so divided right now, I do believe 8 times out of 10 people will do the right thing and look out for each other. I can think of a couple instances where I was helped out by random strangers when I was in a bind. And I’ve gone out of my way to help a stranger as well. Yes I think we should still practice caution but I believe in helping people as long as the situation is safe.
I’m really enjoying Cowboy Carter probably more than Renaissance because I grew up listening to country music and I love that Beyonce has put on some up and coming black country artists like Reyna Robert’s and Tanner Addell and it’s been great discovering these new artists as well. I love how Bey always highlights artists in the genres she explores. Whenever you get around to listening to the album Rod, I think you’ll be in for a treat.
Idk Rod… between last week’s events at the hospital and now for letting you be the black man “holding the bag” with the inebriated young white woman… you might wanna check your insurance policy for any recent changes… I’m just sayin
What kind of group am I in then it comes to Beyoncé?
I don’t think her music is for me, but I still wish her all the success because she seems cool and she gives joy to many people! And she is as far I can tell a thoughtful and smart person and also a strong woman who build an empire and plays by her own rules. I admire that!
I have only positive feeling to her, even if I don’t consume the music.
I hope your neighbor acknowledges you and Karen for making her safety a priority when you two could have easily left her outside. Kudos to the Lyft driver, too, cause he did not sign up for the BS.
My hot take on Cowboy Carter: You love and appreciate art, and you dislike and chastise art. From gospel to bluegrass, rap, country, pop, rock, disco, jazz, electronica, and R&B…music tells stories of lived experiences, whether it’s pain, celebration, heartbreak, having a good time, being broke, making up, breaking up, love, revenge, justice, anger, joy, reflection, peace, relationships, etc.
Beyonce creates art, and just like the musicians and performers of the past fifty-plus years, she stays on the necks of others who choose not to grow and study their history and the history of American History, especially Music History. PS…Who, besides Aretha and Beyonce, performs Opera flawlessly?
Listen, I’m an atheist, but the message of Jesus of “love one another/love thy neighbor” is the truth you’re living, and no greater reminder of that than Easter weekend. You cared for this woman you did not know, even at potential risk to yourself. It’s the right thing to do. Honestly, the cops should have taken her to the hospital for observation. Someone that drunk or altered, they could come into harm when left alone in their own apartment.
Thank you for helping this woman. Even if it was annoying. You scored major karma points. Who knows what happened to her before. And she was in huge danger to become a victim of a crime.
