I’m mad at Josh Harnett, and it has zero to do with him. That tall, beautiful white man, made me realized how badly I’ve played Hitman for my entire life & M. Night Shyamalan literally made the best version of a theatrical version (with his idiosyncrasies, of course). Look out, Agent 47, this white man is coming for your trademarks, my white bald brotha.
Seriously, besides the predictable silliness of an otherwise entertaining third-act, Trap is an effectively smart thriller, led by Harnett being such a riveting father, killer, sleuthing, guy, you start to root for the man & not feel bad, even if he’s such irredeemable slime? As I pointed out, the man became so good at getting away from the authorities, it’s like Josh mastered the art of disguise & stealth to a T. I couldn’t stop laughing at how insane it was, yet I was riveted by it. This is Shyamalan’s best film, imo, since 2015’s The Visit, starring Kathryn Hann.
The cast is good (Alison Pill, Saleka & Riley Donohue are standouts to Harnett), concert playing throughout the movie’s cat-&-mouse tension is very effective.
Trap’s a good show & it wasn’t a smart decision to not allow film critics to see this. Hopefully, it’ll develop word-of-mouth theatrically or on the digital, Blu-ray & 4K market.
I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw that we got Trap before Civil War. An M Night Shyamalan’s movie too! So I refreshed twice and it was real. So I listened and I guess I’ll go check it out. Welcome back to the cook out M Night or is it too soon?
