What up Rod, Karen, & Justin,
I just wanted to comment about the TNT and the NBA tv contract. Before the NBA reached out to outside networks about the new tv contract there was an exclusive negotiation window for ESPN & TNT since they were already the tv providers. From different reports that I read, during that exclusive window the NBA asked TNT pay $2.1 billion per year for the “B package”. TNT said no and suggested to the NBA to reach out to Amazon during this exclusive window. ESPN agreed to pay $2.6 billion per year for their “A package”, NBC now has the “B package and paying $2.5 billion per year, and Amazon now has a new “C package the NBA created paying $1.8 billion. TNT has a matching clause but according to the NBA their matching should be for the “B package” which is the package they had previously. Secondly, they can’t match Amazon because Amazon has double the number of subscribers that Max has, and Amazon put a poison pill in their contract. They agreed to pay 3 years of the 11 year contract upfront. TNT or Warner doesn’t have the money to match that.
Thanks for the great show!!1
