I did not expect to have such a great time with this movie. I only saw one trailer and since I stopped doing the YouTube breakdowns, I came in really fresh and ready to soak it in. Just like you guys I too was late (proof we related again). I loved the build-up and I did feel the anger of Megatron when it started cooking. As someone who also saw that 80s Transformers Movie, this satisfied my itch. I’m down to see where the franchise goes. The voice acting was great. Solid all the way!

The rage of Brian Tyree Henry! He fuckin’ cooked! Great film overall, too.

    Hi Rod and Karen,

This film was so good. My Brian Tyree Henry loving heart broke a little when it became clear to me who his character was going to become (I am not a Transformer Head, I am just someone who is still trying to get the bad taste those Michael Bay films out of my mouth, after my students forced me to watch them during our holiday beak parties). Strangely, a lot of people walked out of the film before the final credits. I stayed because my thought was that the filmmakers had to set up the Rise of the Deceptacons story in a more explicit way. I wonder if the studio will continue with the cast from Rise of the Beasts (which I actually enjoyed), or if they will just have this version of the series. Either way, I am looking forward to the next chapter in this series.

Hey Rod & Karen, couldn’t agree more with your review. I really enjoyed Transformers One. It finally gave me what I’ve been looking for in a Transformers movie. My constant complaint for all the live action movies has been that the focus is never on the Transformers in a Transformers movie. They are almost always treated as props or background characters. This is the first modern Transformers movie that is in the same ballpark as the 86 movie.

I am one of those comics and lore-obsessed Transformers fans and I was satisfied. Sure, I would love Megatron’s origin story more drawn out into a miniseries where we see his rise through the ranks from miner to gladiator to revolutionary. But I still think the tighter story in this movie worked well. Brian Tyree Henry’s Megatron was the standout for me, and his progression to tyranny was believable and logical. I really do hope we get a sequel and possibly trilogy telling the story of the development of the War on Cybertron that is coming.
