I absolutely loved our guest Zuri in this episode , this was incredibly informative and interesting. Congrats to Zuri and the other intimacy coordinators on finally gaining union recognition too!

Thanks again Zuri , Rod & Karen!

This was a very interesting guest and I learned a lot. But it got me to thinking about intimacy coaches on some of these steamy sex scenes like Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn on Scandal and Andrew Lincoln and Danai Guerra on The walking dead. I’m sure there was an intimacy coach but you can’t tell me that Andrew and Tony didn’t “accidentally”dip their fingers in the well. Those sex scenes were too real. I wonder what an intimacy coach would do if the actors are too into each other.

This was a very interesting show and I learned some new stuff!
    Great guest!
Rod talked about a scene he saw where a black actor looked ashy.
I read it up and had the thought, maybe sometimes looking a bit ashy can just be normal, because as I understood it’s a normal process? I read that taking care of ashiness is seen as self care and self respect, but it’s still work, that some people can’t always do with busy lives.

Also we desperately need more black people and people of color in the social work and psychiatry field. I’m a white social worker and it has been rare for me to see a person of color. I work with older adults and some of the black patients have straight up told me they aren’t comfortable fully divulging things because there is no way they can relate to me. I had one older gentleman ask me if I was sure I was comfortable transporting him to his appointment because the police might give me hassle-things I would never think about because it isn’t my experience. I luckily have some black friends and acquaintances I can ask how to handle a certain situation, but it still doesn’t always make people more comfortable with me. It is something I need to be more aware of because my kids are black and I don’t want to inadvertently do something to make them feel bad. I also need to be aware of things so that when they encounter it in the real world I can help them through it/make them feel comfortable enough with talking to me about it. It is also one of the reasons I worked hard to establish a relationship with the bio family because there are things I will never be able to fully understand.

I went slightly off topic but it is something that worries me, that we don’t have enough people of color in the social work and psychiatry field and I’m not sure how to help change that.

I love this guest! The sex therapy part for kids threw me for a second until she reminded me that sadly there are kids who have been thrown out of their home for being a part of the LGBT community which is so sad. And I’ve been a foster parent mainly with infants-toddlers so it isn’t something that I’ve thought about. She brought some important things for me to think about with my kids for sure. And it was so fascinating to listen about the intimacy coordination for movie sets. I’ll never forget about reading an article who said a director and an actor went behind an actress’s back to really shove a stick of butter in her to get a “authentic” reaction. Which is so wild and disgusting to think about. It is nice to know that these positions exist-hopefully the regulations and certifications get in place so that harm isn’t done by untrained people.

Another Award Winning episode right here. Karen dropping fire questions from all my blind spots and then later would say that we’re not related. Then how come you knew how to cover the basis for me? We need to hit up Maury.

Yo Rod, I know you’re a freshly pumpkin spiced minted 46 year old (Happy Birthday again) However, what kinda of poll is that sir? I had to open the classified archive for that one. Keep it PG, think about the kids & Africa!

    Great guest!
