    Hi Rod, Karen & Justin!
Rod, thanks so much for recommending the Sarah Spain podcast where she interviewed Christine Brennan. It was so compelling! You were right, Sarah does a master class on interviewing and how to talk to your problematic white friend. She articulated so well how it’s their responsibility as journalists to be cognizant that what they say must be seen in the context of the entire league. Brennan was so defensive and could not see how her choice in questions to DiJonai Carrington and her coverage pushing for Caitlin to be on the Olymic team was feeding the problem. My favorite line was Sarah’s response to Brennan’s constant harping and insistence that her prior experience should give her a pass, and she said “Sometimes impact is just as important as intent. If your intent doesn’t match your impact and enough people tell you that – at some point there’s a reassessment.” Whew. Let Sarah do media training for next season.

Hey Rod (and Justin and Karen if this is on the Pre-game),

I was just writing to give a documentary recommendation because you always give such great ones. I just finished “Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial”. It’s fantastic. It’s based on a book written by an American journalist, William Shirer, who was in Germany basically from right before Hitler took power, and got to travel with the Nazi army up until 1940, right after the first year of the war. The documentary weaves audio and video footage of the Nuremberg Trials throughout and it’s just fascinating. It’s insane how much the highest ranking Nazis were just soft, sad, scared white men. But, I guess that’s why you try to genocide an entire group and peple and take over the world to make yourself feel as powerful as the mythical German muscle man that you want to be.

I won’t say a whole lot about Hitler, but watching the way his rise to power is framed it is WILD how Europe just let him do most of the shit he did to start WW2 because they thought giving him MORE power would make him top. This documentary highlights a lot of very consequential moments where if the white man or men involved had just made a slightly different decision, WW2 and the Holocaust might never have happened.

    Keep up the awesome work!

College Struggle Meals were DIFFERENT, ha! After my bestie and I used all of our money getting an odd campus apartment because we wanted to be grown, we realized that we hadn’t budgeted for ANYTHING else. Had like $10 to last until one of us would be paid in a week. We used that to buy some potatoes, a pack of margarine, a gallong of milk, & 2 boxes of capt crunch (crunch berries, obvi). This was in 92 and that was so harsh that I haven’t touched capt crunch or margarine since
