I’m late but I also saw the title and thought, “Oh noooo, what happened to Apia?!!”
I’m glad she’s ok and echo the love for her commentary.
Also, I too am tired on behalf of Rod with people policing his face in real time. LOL
They want to make you the mean husband for some reason.
We love the authenticity over here!!!
Rod why are you surprised that I like Apia? She’s awesome. Honestly, there are a handful of listeners whose feedback I enjoy like Ms Smart, Brooklyn shoe babe, Leonard brothers, Prof Corey and RoninRapheal. There are more but I’m forgetful. But honestly the fact that you have so many thoughtful listeners with great feedback is a reflection of this show.
The manosphere podcasts attracts trash opinions because they’re trash but TBGWT is top tier with top tier listeners.
Hi Rod, Karen, and hopefully Apia,
I was a little behind on episodes this week and wanted to comment on two things.
First, I am so proud of the TBGWT Family who came out and stood ten toes down for Apia. I was so hurt on her behalf when I heard that needlessly cruel voicemail. I like many others enjoy Apia’s feedback. I enjoy Apia so much that when she is not the first response, I’m like, “Oh no, what happened, I hope Apia is alright.”
Second, congrats to Karen on purchasing Ta-Nehisi Coates‘s audio book. I know how hard it can be to branch out of your particular favorite genre, so to hear how much Karen is enjoying The Message, made me smile. My long drive to and from work means that I spend my mornings listening to audiobooks (I listen to Karen Hunter on the way home), so Karen, yes, it is a form of reading, it is just non-traditional, so don’t put yourself down for it. If you had a vision problem, or arthritis, you would not diminish how you became exposed to an author’s work. I have the audible plan where I get 24 credits a year, both other perks that often end up with me getting additional credits, because I love books that much. Reading and exposure starts somewhere and it always has merit. As for the listener who commented that they leave their credits for the longer books, I get it. I tend to make exceptions with Black authors because we know how they do us. We always need three times the pre-sales, and first week sales for our work to be deemed worthy of production.
Apia is an absolute delight. Whoever doesn’t agree can go kick rocks. One of my good memories from the dark times of the pandemic is facetiming with Apia while we are both taking our kids on yet another nature walk to pass the time. Apia is Good People, I hope she felt more love than hate when it comes to Apia Appreciation Day (which we will now celebrate every 10/12). Hell, just replace Columbus Day with Apia Day.
Love it, it was really cool!
I feel pretty great, honestly now.
Last week I was stuck in another dimension so couldn’t respond to the voicemail about Apia. As an unofficial Black German, let me say this to Apia ‘nichts als Liebe für dich’ (if you was nicer to the middle names Rod, I would have written it in English. Make sure you add that oomph to your voice haha). There’s enough room to love Apia and those with middle names here. In fact, it’s time to announce my next cruise with a carnival and it’s to Germany. Hmu for a special TBGWT discount, we shall be sailing on the cruise ship known as BBL Peace. No veneer service on this cruise, fix ya teeth before showing up. If you wanna party, I know 2 Colombians.
Apia is my peeps, back to singing through the … good Kang out!
“Teeth by Tessa” LOLOL ☠️
Also, Karen coined a new phrase in this episode… “singing to the choir!” I love it
I can’t even fight, but I WOULD fight anyone who made Apia leave. Glad they didn’t run you off, Apia!
Ok, I’m officially coming back!
Just that you know, it was not an act when I wanted to leave.
I’m aware that the podcast is a mostly black space and I’m a guest here. A guest who wants to behave, be respectful and help other guests to have a good time.
And I was afraid I somehow behaved in a way that was not like that because of some blind spots in my mind.
Now I’m really overwhelmed with all the love I got. What a ride.
I see it as my duty to continue, take this, angry lady, I have a mandate now.
And I even send you some love. I wish you the feeling of support I got here, to see how good it feels.
And as a bonus, I give you the second black Dorothea story.
I was, as I said at a medical convention.
My company is the big dog, even if our booth was small, other smaller ones want often to cooperate.
A white lady from a start up visited us, looked at my name tag and said, oh we also have a Dorothea in our team. ( it’s a rather rare name here)
20 minutes later the other Dorothea came to say hi and it was again, a tall, black doctor Dorothea.
I thought: WTF.
I need to tell it on TBGWT ASAP.
Oh wait.
She was very sweet and we talked, she added me on LinkedIn I noticed, we went to the same university.
The next day she came by again and said: “ meeting you yesterday was the highlight of my day, you are so funny/ cool/ something else“
I joked : “thanks, I hear this constantly, hihi”
She said: “ in your case, I believe it!”
Wtf again. Did someone of you send her? But how? And the name!
Apia, I have only ever found your feedback to be charming and funny. Glad you are sticking around.
She also said:
Oh, same university, we could have met before!
Oh, you sweet, sweet doctor Dorothea.
I’m 10 years older than you. But I’m sure we could. If you visited the local university with your high school maybe or something to see the last gen x generations study.
Love the Show Art!
