We have a really big DA election in Los Angeles this year. It made me think of Kamala and all the heat she has taken for having been a prosecutor. In our race there is clearly a progressive compassionate choice – incumbent and former police officer George Gascon. By working inside the system he has encouraged prosecutors to not seek enhancements or the death penalty, and has resentenced 300 people. In one case a young man sentenced to life at the age of 15 has gotten a second chance and now mentors other prior offenders in his community. Interestingly Gascon will rule this week on whether the Menendez bothers qualify for resentencing now that new evidence has come out. Anyway Gascon’s challenger is a three strikes guy. So, yeah..:same office, same title, yet completely different philosophy and tenor. Anyway hoping Gascon will get re-elected.
