I watched the first two episodes of Skeleton Crew on Disney+ before I listened to this show and Rod, you were saying all of the things that I was saying! What I saw was Spielberg magic! The setting was an 80s California suburb. It looked like Goonies, ET, all that. Cool kids on bikes taking back routes to school while you’re trapped on the bus. The father said “I’m busy at work and I won’t be around, here’s your lunch money for your week, see ya!”. That’s exactly how a feral Gen X kid was raised, as portrayed in the movies at the time. Are them haters not connecting with the nostalgia? They must be blind.

    Sup Nerds,
I once saw a post on IG from either The Economist or Wall Street Journal that said that Moana was the most streamed animation on Disney +. Kids love it. One of the reasons that they gave was that she’s not a traditional princess and refuses to be seen as one (I felt that’s the adults inserting themselves) but anyway I know that I didn’t see the first Moana in the theater. But when I introduced my kid to it, a younger than 2 years old demanded that movie until I could sing all the songs and so much more. Apparently, it’s been happening all over America and beyond so despite the first movie not necessarily being huge at the box office, them kids (mine included) told Disney you better give us a sequel + live action and the Mouse doesn’t miss the dollar sign. The Rock gonna die making Moana movies until his fellow Republicans start to wonder if it’s too DEI. Now excuse me while I go finish writing my kid hustler adventures for Disney. Teach them young!
