Hot Frosty reminds me of naughty thoughts but we’re all God’s children so I’ll return back earth, but every time I say it I just start smiling in a sexy pervy way. I wonder why… Anyway I’m watching the movie this weekend, loved the conversation about writing and movies in general. I see a Blade coming, but what about a Blade killing vampires in a cold icy land? Now I’ll drink some Glühwein to that hot frosty… I could also setup a trip to Greenland too? Really enjoyed Russell.
I had no desire to see Hot Frosty before this episode but I will definitely check it out now. I do like cheesy Christmas movies. The ones on Netflix are pretty decent.
First of all, I did also listen to your Spoiled Movie Review on this, and it’s the first time I’ve listened to that particular premium show, and wow, I’ve been missing out! The opening rivaled the Balls Deep opening — “Luke, that’s your daddy!” “They killed Ol Yeller!” Haha. Anyway, I enjoyed this episode and found it interesting to hear Russell’s insight into how the rom-com genre is expanding and allowing for different stories. Romance in general is a huge business and books have all sorts of sub-genres like romantasy and reverse harem (exactly what you think it is). These types of films can get looked down on by film snobs, but it is good honest work as far as I’m concerned. It’s nice people and a nice storyline that serves as distraction in hard times. Also, as someone who lives in LA, not everyone who is in the entertainment business is doing Tom Cruise films or making that kind of money. Lots of everyday people in the business here make a decent living off these types of films, so I’m all for keeping people employed and spreading joy.
The one time that I was stuck watching a Holiday rom-com was the time that me and my sister spent Thanksgiving in Savannah GA a couple of years ago. My sister hijacked the TV and I had no choice but to watch every god-forsaken holiday rom-com on the Hallmark channel
because she loves them. In true holiday rom-com fashion, we did not stay in a hotel, we stayed in a bed and breakfast, we walked the city and had Thanksgiving dinner in a nice quite and quaint restaurant. The adult kid in me wanted to blast my Wu-Tang with anime or Snapped playing in the background. The only upside was that we discovered a bar behind our bed and breakfast where our bartender had me falling off the barstool flat-blasted drunk and the B&B where the bar was may or may not have been haunted. All of that to say that holiday rom-coms are ok 🙂
The Church’s Chicken in my neighborhood closed down and was replaced by a Popeyes Chicken in the same location. So, good things do happen when you least expect them to.
