I used to be on them dating apps streets. Crazy thing was that they never met the Ronin Raphael, just a Rafael (say it in Spanish). Got a lot of terrible advice from my early days in America that I applied going in from cousins, shipmates, and folks that I never once asked myself “do I like where they are in their relationships?” So of course, it was the women’s fault and I began to doubt myself and almost swallowed the red pills. But at the last second, my future self showed up and said “you’re going to defend the middle names snap out of it.” So I humbly asked two of my favorite lesbian friends to look at my profile on one of the apps. After shaking their heads and laughing for what felt like eternity, they cleaned my profile up and picked photos that made me look sexier & no longer like the candyman. Game changer, I was going on dates messing up but on my terms. Men, get you a woman friend or a Gay friend to fix your profiles. See a Ronin is a cheerful giver and still gives back to his community. Play Black Capitalist Rod!
I don’t think what Jaleel White said was that egregious but I think people are riled up over his past comments. There’s this revisionist history as if we weren’t watching Family Matters every Friday night because most black people I know are still asking what happened to Judy when she went up those stairs and we all remember Stephan Urkel, Steve’s alter ego.
I have never been to Raising Cane’s either but they’re opening one down the road from me this January so I’ll find out for myself if it’s good or not. But I can understand about not getting the sauce. I was at Taco Bell this week and asked for hot sauce, the lady gave me one packet as if they were ration in that shit out. I was so pissed but then I went into my condiment drawer at home and I had some extra Taco Bell sauce in there. I think that’s a universal black experience right there.
If you are on the dating apps, you are entitled to compensation…….
God bless anyone that is still on the dating apps and I’m happy that Chris is having a good experience on the apps.
Interesting to hear his perspective on dating as I always expect men to have a very easy experience.
I hope I will never have to date again, even if it can be fun, Im happily married to the introverted Mr Apia.
That Raising Cane sauce story got my memories coming back. In the beginning of the pandemic I went to the Panda Express drive thu for Chicken teriyaki. I get back home and there was no sauce on it like there was supposed to be. I put my pants back on and went back and showed there was no sauce. The window person explained that because of the new store regulations they don’t pour it on but come in packets and told me I had to pay for the sauce as if it was extra. She tried to make excuses and that sometimes people don’t want the sauce. I told her “Madame if I order chicken teriyaki I expect it to have teriyaki sauce “. She thought for a split second and said “you right”. I got 3 packets instead of the standard 2 and I didn’t even have to yell. Logic won the day for once.
Esteemed Public Intellectuals,
Just wanted to say thank you for making me think about Jaleel White and how every Black boy with glasses of a certain age (self included) got called Urkel. Honestly, I want to thank him because I know it was his popularity that got me cast in the Fackler role in a theme park Police Academy stunt show the Summer of my senior year in high school. That was way more money than I was making as a shows technician; so as sick as I was of hearing it at school, I was all about it on pay day.
I didn’t last long in that show, but I’m not trying to hijack your podcast with stories of a failed teenage stunt man. I just wanted to say good lookin’ out to Jaleel, even if he never sees this (though I hope he does because he deserves to have a good Black-ass time with the rest of us).
Love y’all, thanks for the show, and shout out to the chat room!
