Great review – just saw it (I think the repetition of the Jennifer Hudson soul train line for Aaron Pierre got in my head). Even Scar’s heel turn, he hears Mufasa’s side where he is trying to talk up Scar even as Sarabi is throwing herself at Mufasa. And the songs were bad (the only one decent as you said is Bye Bye) – Lin Manuel Miranda is trying way too hard for the O in EGOT with all these bad Disney songs. I’d probably go 2.5 stars just because I still really like the animation. More a credit to the technology I guess
If Barry Jenkins didn’t do this movie, I don’t think I’d be as lenient as I am with it, as far as stylings go. Looks better than the 2019 movie, which in retrospective, doesn’t really hold up.
“At least you tried” shouldn’t be an acceptable statement for Mufasa, it’s all I got.
I think these peaked a long time ago.
