I had no really hope for this film, sorry Anthony Mackie. My meh feelings on Mackie and my opinion which Karen mentioned that the one actor I always felt Mackie had chemistry with and became interesting to watch when they interact was Sebastian Stan (Bucky). When Marvel said Stan was not in the film, and he would be doing Thunderbolts instead, I tamped down my expectations. I knew Ford, Lumbly, and the underused Esposito (although the path was clearly laid for his return) would be solid, so this and my intention of not sitting home when the usual crowd refused to support and shit all on the film drove me to the theater on the morning before an expected snowstorm.

Well, these low expectations resulted in me really enjoying the film, even with my questions of why is a foreigner the head of the President’s security force. I think Thaddeus was humanized not just because Ford is so believed, but because at his age and the amount of time it takes to make these films, Marvel might have worried over making what could be Ford’s last character on film pure evil. Mackie surprised me in the best way. While the end credit scene was mid, and should have been a mid-credit scene, I wonder if Marvel is still recovering from the “Kang” of it all, and they could not give us more due to course corrections. I was happy to get “I” by Kendrick Lamar and hope that if Marvel has the courage to give us a second installment ( I suspect Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four will outperform this film, but Feige and company had to know a large portion of America was never going to give this film a fair shake), that we will get more Mackie and Stan, Esposito will return, and a more fleshed out MCU will provide them with more to work with.

JL COVAN HAS RUINED JON BERNTHAL FOR ME AND I’LL NEVER FORGIVE HIM!!! I was sitting there enjoying the trailers and seeing the two that featured him. Then JL’s impression of him just started looping in my head and I said “noo noo no”. JL why do you have to be so good at impressions!?
There are three problems with CABNW and they’re not the movie’s fault.
    1. Nothing is going to make me feel the way CAWS or Infinity War made me feel. My expectations start off way too high and that’s on me. The movie is enjoyable.

    2. Anthony Mackie reminds me of my little brother, and if you know anything about the dynamics of little brothers vs big sisters. . . I was wondering where Sam’s sister was to talk some sense into this Black man. I was talking to the screen saying “tighten up nigga!”

    3. The black writers for this movie probably had to make some tough decisions to suspend “Black Logic”. Because if you don’t, the movie would have been a short film. Lol

The entire first part of the movie I was so triggered and scared as well. When Isaiah said “I should have stayed home and minded my business”. I said “in the real world you would have black man!” He has the perfect set of eyes, that show so much emotion!

I also stand firm behind my decision not to watch anymore Marvel trailers, I think I enjoy the movies more that way and to give them a fair chance. I did not know Giancarlo Esposito was in this movie and was delighted to see him! That man knows how to play a villain! I honestly thought his character died though, or was it just me?

I did not like how DC got destroyed, it made me feel old because I was only thinking about all the tax money it’s going to take to fix all that! I agree about the post credit scene, it wasn’t worth it.

Thank yall for reviewing the movie!
And honey if you’re listening, thank you for watching the kids so I could see it opening night.

Functional film. Parts of it clearly had more to it, but I’m pretty satisfied. While it’s disappointing to call this film an “appetizer” to Thunderbolts & Fantastic Four, because it’s a Captain America IP, it’s a good spy film in the land of superheroes.

Anthony “Checkers” Mackie was damn good & held his own against Harrison Ford, Tim Blake Nelson & Carl Lumbly. This feels like a mid-tier “back to basics” movie that would’ve been applicable in Phase 2, but in all honesty, I’ll this over say Ant-Man 3, Secret Invasion & Thor 2.

I will say that post-credit should’ve been yeeted out of there. If Marvel simply teased us with a credit of everyone who worked on it, better than that nothingburger of a reveal.
