Hey y’all. A couple things from this episode –
1. Rod you hit on something in a less hyper olic way that I’ve been saying for a while : “virtue signaling” is possibly over if the most perfect terminologies in existence of it hadn’t come from the Right and carries that negative connotation. I’m it’s most benign form though, it’s the perfect descriptor for how people brandish their identities, marginalizations, etc to shut down conversation or place themselves beyond reproach. I remember before I left Twitter there was a doctor in a residency that snitched on her attending surgeon for misconduct/malpractice and got fired. She brought it to the timeline talking about “they fired a black, lgbt, disabled woman …” and I thought to myself ‘ I doubt they even considered all that. Tried is it was retaliation. You already in the right, stop virtue signaling to build support’. You are making things unnecessarily murky and just might be making things worse for the gays because this isn’t a gay rights issue…
2. No shade to the guy who recommended but – don’t watch Hamilton. I’m a big musical guy and possibly the biggest defender of Lin Manuel’s work as people have started to turn on him. Hamilton ain’t it. It’s decent live but that recorded version don’t hit. Dead ass, I’m the type to listen to show tunes in my rotation next to Kendrick and Childish Gambino and Hamilton is easily Lin Manuel’s worst work. Like – Wicked might be my most played soundtrack and I’ve watched the movie multiple times so if you thought it was “nothing special” you’d watch Hamilton with loathing. Unadulterated loathing.
I almost thought that Justin was about to start talking about Death of a Unicorn when he mentioned Unicorn. I was like oh shit now lol movie review. I hope that Unicorn world comes this way. Got a few Unicorn obsessed kids here.
I knew French media was different from soccer reporting but took it as maybe overreacting to their interpretation, then I watched a report on a German TV of the trial (I apologize if it’s triggering for some) of the woman whose husband used to drug her for years and while she was asleep he’ll invite strangers to have sex with his passed out wife. I believe that was their official Me Too moment cause it exposed French rape and sexual assault laws (conviction was around Oct last year). Women showed up from all over France of all ethnicities to support the victim who refused to be a Jane Doe. It was the defense that the men were using from “how was I supposed to know that she was drugged, her husband was there and gave consent, he invited me otherwise I wouldn’t be there. I’m not a rapist.” About 80 men, of all ages to as young as 21 got tried with the victims husband. One of the men took his life before trial. To me I was wondering what on earth is there to debate if a monster is drugging his wife, where is the consent? This isn’t the 1500s where she is property, then just order her to do it. The fact there was a debate for some time tells me that what we call debate is overrated right now.
